Participants will see and learn about select artworks in the exhibition Apostles of Nature: Jugendstil and Art Nouveau, and will explore and compose a work commencing with a simple, elegant line on a monotype print.

The exhibition entitled “In the name of Klimt. Gorizia, a Central-European salon between tradition and innovation” exhibits masterpieces of artists – local painters as well – that have asserted themselves in Vienna and others who have worked in the County of Gorizia. A noteworthy part will be dedicated to two important figures who have had a huge impact on secessionist artists: Dante and Beethoven. On the first floor the focus will be put on the art of Klimt and on the cultural-artistic environment of Vienna at the end of the 20th century. The second floor will be dedicated to local painters. A special unit will represent the protagonists of local architecture.

Th exhibition introduces 230 works by the well-known Czech artist Alphonse Mucha, an icon of Art Nouveau style. Presenting his major works, including paintings, photos, design goods, decorative works and drawings, the exhibition shows the life of Mucha and works of Mucha-inspired cartoonists from Korea and Japan. Mucha is regarded as one of the Art Nouveau movement’s pioneers, also known for the very first Czechoslovac stamps and banknotes as well as his masterpiece, the Slav Epic, a monument to the struggles and achievements of the Slav people.

Het landgoed Oud Groevenbeek is een relatief klein landgoed, 224 ha. op de grens tusssen Putten en Ermelo. Het landgoed is ontstaan in de negentiende en twintigste eeuw en is nagenoeg nog helemaal gaaf en compleet. Met de prachtige Jugenstil villa, tuinmanswoning, koetshuis, boerderij, washuis, druivenkas, watertoren en schitterende zichtassen.
De lezing gaat in het bijzonder over het ontstaan van dit landgoed, de villa en de laatste bewoners: de heer en mevrouw van Schermbeek.

The exhibition presents architectural graphics from projects of public buildings, apartment buildings and houses, bridges, interior decoration and furniture made by famous architects and designers like Vasilyev, von Gauguin, Johansen, Lancer, Lyalevich and Ol. An addition to this section are the decorative and architectural details of buildings in St. Petersburg: glass, iron castings, and architectural ceramics. There are also sections with furniture and lighting fixtures, graphic art Nouveau and gorgeous silk dresses, shoes, bags and boas of ostrich feathers.

De architectuur van Mackintosh is vrijwel alleen in zijn geboorteplaats Glasgow te zien. Daardoor is hij in Nederland minder bekend geworden. Zijn stoelen met de karakteristieke hoge rugleuning zijn wel internationaal beroemd. Hij vond zijn inspiratie in de natuur en in de geometrie en zijn werk vormt zo de overgang van de Jugendstil naar het modernisme. In samenwerking met zijn vrouw Margaret Macdonald maakte hij veel ontwerpen die lang niet altijd gerealiseerd werden. Omdat zij goede contacten hadden met de kunstenaars van de Wiener Secession werd het echtpaar bij het uitbreken van de eerste wereldoorlog verdacht van spionage voor Duitsland. Het werken werd hen vrijwel onmogelijk gemaakt en ze konden alleen door steun van enkele goede vrienden overleven.

De uitbundig versierde gebouwen van Gaudí in Barcelona zijn heel bekend. Hij hoorde bij een groep jonge architecten die de Modernistas genoemd werden. Zijn werk onderscheidt zich door een heel eigen stijl en het gebruik van bijzondere constructies die door hem toegepast werd. Zijn leven stond volledig in dienst van zijn werk. In zijn laatste jaren leefde hij teruggetrokken als een kluizenaar in de Sagrada Familia. We volgen zijn ontwikkeling vanaf zijn studietijd tot aan zijn tragische dood in 1926.

An extraordinary exhibition on Art Nouveau featuring paintings, sculptures, sketches, posters and ceramics from the most important Italian museums and extraordinary private collections. Many of these artworks are on display for the first time. Each section of the exhibition – curated by Francesco Parisi and Anna Villari – shows the two main “souls” of Italian Liberty: the “floral” one and the “modernist” one, more similar to the European movement.

Le Musée des Beaux-Arts de Nancy conserve, depuis sa mort, le fonds d’atelier d’Émile Friant. L’exposition proposée mettra en lumière des œuvres inédites restaurées par le musée ces dernières années, et en particulier des académies réalisées alors que le peintre était encore adolescent.
27 October 2016 – 29 January 2017, Exhibition Jan Toorop (1858–1928), Museum Villa Stuck, Munchen, Germany.
Jan Toorop is among the most renowned Symbolist painters produced by the Netherlands. But fewer people know that he worked in a far wider range of styles. In his quest for a distinctive personal style, Toorop experimented with Impressionism, Pointillism and Art Nouveau. It was not until 1891 that – looking beyond the Dutch borders to artists like Ensor, Van Gogh and the Symbolists – he hit on his own distinctive Symbolist style. The everyday world was banished from his work in favour of highly imaginative and visionary images. The guest curator of this exhibition, Gerard van Wezel, has spent the last thirty years conducting in-depth research on Toorop’s oeuvre. His involvement has enabled the Gemeentemuseum Den Haag to gather together all of Jan Toorop’s principal masterpieces in the first complete overview of his work ever to be presented in the Netherlands.

Jugendstil, Art Nouveau en Liberty, zijn verschillende benamingen voor dezelfde karakteristieke vormen die rond 1900 in de architectuur, het kunsthandwerk en de beeldende kunst in de mode waren. Jonge ontwerpers en kunstenaars gingen op zoek naar een manier van vormgeven die anders was dan het gebruikelijke herhalen van traditionele klassieke of barokke vormen. Zij vonden hun inspiratie in de natuur en ontleenden daaraan lijnen en vlakken met een golvend en vloeiend karakter. Zij stelden de ambachtelijke kwaliteit van het handwerk boven het zielloze machineproduct. De beeldende kunstenaars gebruikten deze vormgeving om symbolisch een spirituele werkelijkheid weer te geven.

Albert Besnard was the first painter to whom the government granted the honour of a State funeral, well before Georges Braque. Famous for his grand decoration work (École de Pharmacie, Hôtel de Ville, the Chemistry amphitheatre of the Sorbonne, the dome of the Petit Palais, the ceiling of la Comédie Française etc.), Besnard dazzled his contemporaries with his “dazzling enchantment”. He was a relatively late symbolist, a champion of the curvy silhouette of the 1900s woman, and was also an audacious and sought-after portrait painter. the Petit Palais offers visitors the opportunity to reconsider the remarkable journey of this artist, from Paris to Rome, with stops in London and on the banks of the Ganges.

On display will be color lithographs (Jane Avril, 1893), posters (The passenger cabin 54, 1895 and Aristide Bruant in his cabaret, 1893), drawings in pencil and pen, promotional graphics and illustrations for newspapers (La Revue blanche, 1895) that link the aristocrat Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec inextricably to the emblem of an era.
8 October 2016 – 19 February 2017, Exhibition Alphonse Mucha: In Quest of Beauty, Kelvingrove Art Gallery & Museum, Glasgow, Scotland, UK.
The exhibition explores the work and legacy of the Czech painter and decorative artist Alphonse Mucha (1860–1939). Through his stylish and beautiful theatrical and advertising posters, the exhibition examines how ‘Le Style Mucha’ evolved and became synonymous with the international Art Nouveau style. It also examines the often-hidden, skilled draughtsmanship behind Mucha’s internationally recognisable designs,and explores how his artistic philosophy influenced his later career.
Alongside works by Mucha feature several key objects from Glasgow’s own collection; artworks that demonstrate the interchange of artistic ideas between Scotland, the rest of the UK, and continental Europe.

A virtual walk through Arnhem using images. Looking for traces of Art Nouveau, the Amsterdam School, Art Deco and the Hague School. Arnhem has it all, sometimes prominently present in the streets and sometimes hidden, for example, in a window or on an upper floor. Buildings, facades, ironwork, sculpture, tile and stained-glass from the “Elegant Period” from 1890 to 1930. Gracious and luxurious materials.

The Exhibition counts more than 200 woodblock color prints and illustrated booksfrom the Honolulu Museum of Art’s prestigious collection, developing into a project organized by the City of Milan, Palazzo Reale and MondoMostre Skira and curated by Rossella Menegazzo, Professor of Eastern Asian Art History at the University of Milan.
Visitors to the exhibition will enjoy a dual experience: first, feeling the same wonder viewers feel before the freshness and simplicity of the shapes and colours of artists such as Monet, Van Gogh, Degas and Toulouse-Lautrec, which contributed to changing and revolutionizing the pictorial language of Paris of the late nineteenth century; and second, discovering the unusual technical elements, the skill and the eccentricity of each of the three artists.

The exhibition aims to help discover the enchanted world of the Brussels architect Gustave Strauven. Bold, virtuoso or even whimsical at times, he is the author of some sixty buildings in Brussels. Among them some excellent masterpieces. But Gustave Strauven also composed some smaller houses, which are easy to locate after a little training.

Organized by LACMA’s Rifkind Center for German Expressionist Studies, Apostles of Nature: Jugendstil and Art Nouveau explores the popular late nineteenth- and early twentieth-century style known as Art Nouveau in France and Jugendstil in Germany. This exhibition brings together more than 50 objects from across the museum’s collections, including prints, posters, books, decorative arts, and textiles, to illustrate the movement’s efforts to create integrated, total works of art, or Gesamtkunstwerke, that would bring aesthetic ideals to bear on everyday modern life.

Visitors can immerse themselves in the work of one of the great European artists and enjoy a cosmos full of secrets, inspired by classical mythology and promising unexpected discoveries and fascinating encounters with mystical creatures. The scandalous erotic paintings by Franz von Stuck, most famously The Sin, were controversial and popular not only because of their motif, his imagery became state of the art as well. With his role as figurehead of the Munich Secession he also became a role model for the Viennese Secession, founded a few years later.

During the exhibition a selection of Japanese prints from the Meiji, Showa and Taisho period will be on display together with works (facsimiles) of Chagall, Gauguin and Matisse. In addition original work by Breitner, Mesdag, Mankes, Van de Velde, Horta, Mucha, Lalique and Van Dongen, as well as a large collection of twentieth century Japanese prints from the Nihon-no-Hanga collection will be presented.
The collection includes items from the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, from other museums, as well as items from private collections that have never been shown to the public before.
18 June – 30 Oktober 2016, Exhibition Toulouse-Lautrec illustrates the Belle Époque, Montreal Museum of Fine Arts, Montreal, Canada.
The exhibition presents a magisterial private collection, a selection of over ninety of Toulouse-Lautrec’s prints and posters from nearly the entire period of his lithographic career, from 1891 – the year of his first lithograph – to 1899 (the artist produced a few lithographs in 1900). Special features of this exhibition are never-before-published trial proofs, including unique impressions and highly rare prints. Nearly all of the most celebrated prints and posters by Toulouse-Lautrec are represented, as well as four closely related works by two of his close associates: Théophile Alexandre Steinlen and Louis Anquetin.

Methorst created jewelry, clocks, utensils and furniture. During this mini exhibition original records will be exhibited from the De Klop archives. Also, original objects will be exhibited from various private collections. The focus will be on work from the period 1920-1940. Exhibition includes the original designs from objects that are currently on display at the Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam during the exhibition ‘Living in Amsterdam School’.
8 June – 9 October 2016, Exhibition Flora’s Feast – The floral pattern in Art Nouveau, Fondation CIVA Stichting, Brussels, Belgium.
The floral pattern has been used in decorative arts and architecture since forever, in almost all cultures. However, at the time of Art Nouveau, it was reinvented after Japan opens its borders. European artists discovered how their colleagues looked at nature: Japanese artists accepted nature as it presented itself, with its imperfections and fragilities. Flowers that can be found on Japanese fabrics, lacquered items or engravings presented a surprising aspect, sometimes tortuous, even withered, which was not habitual in our area. This new look at nature inspired our European artists, withered with the academic repertoire. The Art Nouveau exhibition presents a.o. posters, stained-glasses and sgraffitos from Brussels.

Barcelona travels back in time to the turn of the 20th century for yet another year, with plenty of leisure and cultural activities on offer, such as guided tours, children’s workshops, Modernista puppets, a parade of vintage cars, a vintage steam train ride, conferences on Modernisme, a ticket draw to visit Modernista buildings for those attending in period costume, and many more surprises. The Fair will also be attended by municipalities and institutions from around the world that somehow have an Art Nouveau connection, as well as a booth with information and products on sale related to the Barcelona Modernisme Route.

The Terrassa Modernist Fair has become the greatest annual modernism festival in Catalonia and a shop window for a period which has left a lasting impression on Catalan character and landscapes through the arts, architecture and industry. In May every year it offers more than 100.000 visitors a weekend full of cultural and culinary events, activities for kids, shows, exhibitions etc. related to the history of the late nineteenth and early twentieth century.

The exhibition recounts the career of Mucha through 149 works borrowed for the occasion from the Richard Fuxa Foundation. Serge Brison has documented the Art Nouveau heritage of nine of the cities involved in the Réseau Art Nouveau Network. The aim of the project was to produce an ‘Portrait of Undiscovered Art Nouveau’, illustrating the Network’s commitment to exploring less well-known facets of the movement. The images have also portrayed the current state of Art Nouveau heritage. Brison’s photographic study of European Art Nouveau has produced a series of images that reflect a unique vision of the subject.

This 1-day free public symposium organised by Glasgow Mackintosh in association with the Glasgow School of Art and Réseau Art Nouveau Network features speakers from the UK and wider Europe, plus panel discussions. The theme for the event is the conservation and restoration of historic interiors, in the context of current repair work at the GSA’s Mackintosh-designed building following a major fire in 2014. The exhibition is drawn from the holdings of the Dhawan Collection, Los Angeles, which is one of the largest and finest collections of Alphonse Mucha’s work in the United States.

The Complesso del Vittoriano is housing a major retrospective on the leading representative of Art Nouveau and one of the most celebrated artists in Europe at the turn of the 20th century: Alphonse Mucha. Curated by Tomoko Sato, the exhibition is bringing to Italy many posters, drawings, paintings, decorative works, books and photographs for the first time. Through works such as Gismonda (1894), The Seasons: Summer (1896), Madonna of the Lilies (1905) and Study for ‘The Slav Epic’ cycle No. 14: The Defence of Sziget (c. 1913-14), the exhibition explores six different aspects of the artist’s personality across as many sections: Bohemian in Paris, creator of the Mucha style, cosmopolitan, mystic, patriot, and philosopher-artist.

Between 1870 and 1940, a great variety of houses of the People are built throughout Europe. These humble or spectacular establishments are the physical places of structuration of the workers masses and contribute to obtaining real progresses regarding political rights, and access to education. There are also places of encounters, togetherness, spaces for reflection, of solidarity, culture and emancipation.
These fortresses of the cooperative movement are a challenge the architects, who must integrate in their architectural programme politics, economics, social and cultural aspects… Called The Glass Roof hive, the Spectacular, the Hope, the Fraternal…, the Houses of the People clearly express by their architecture, a will for assertion.

Three Dutch art dealers, G.J. Nieuwenhuizen Segaar kunsthandel, Antes Art 1900 and Kunsthandel Proportio Divina, will be showing highlights from the European Art Nouveau and Art Deco period; art glass, sculptures, Rozenburg eggshell porcelain, furniture, paintings and lamps etc. This is the 4th edition of the Hague Salon.

Gustav Klimt’s gloriously erotic painting Judith I goes on show this spring at the Gemeentemuseum Den Haag. The picture is a top work from Vienna’s Belvedere museum and among the best-known examples of Klimt’s Golden Phase (when he integrated genuine gold leaf into his paintings). “This is a dream come true,” says Gemeentemuseum director, Benno Tempel, “The painting hardly ever leaves Vienna and then only with the express consent of the Austrian Ministry of Education, Arts and Culture.” This distinctively designed exhibition will present Judith in combination with Egon Schiele’s Portrait of Edith, a top work in the collection of the Gemeentemuseum. Schiele depicts his wife as a model of chastity.

Few Catalan artists have left such a clear mark on the understanding of social and political history of contemporary Spain as Ramon Casas, illustrator, poster artist, portraitist. 150 years after his birth in 1866, the Museum of Modernism in Barcelona organizes the exhibition “Ramon Casas. Modern Life” that is emerging as an ambitious retrospective tribute to a figure whose love for drawing made him an irreplaceable portraitist of the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries.

There have been exhibitions in the past devoted to this beloved theme of Breitner’s, but the paintings of Girl in a Kimono have never been displayed all together. Displaying all the Girl in a Kimono works together, combined with the preliminary studies in the form of drawings, sketches and photographs, as well as Breitner’s easel and paint box, gives the exhibition above all an impression of the way in which the painter went about his work in his studio on the Lauriergracht in Amsterdam. Assembling the entire series also offered an excellent opportunity to conduct technical research, during which surprising new insights were gained. These insights are extensively detailed in the exhibition and the accompanying publication.

Art Nouveau’s popularity waned by the start of the First World War. Many began to shun the style’s excessive use of ornamentation, considering it overly elaborate. More than fifty years later, Art Nouveau experienced a popular revival in the 1960s, particularly in San Francisco when psychedelic poster artists began emulating the work of Alphonse Mucha and other Art Nouveau graphic artists. The Allure of Art Nouveau explores this enchanting style and features an array of works by important artists such as Emile Gallé, Georges de Feure, and Gustav Gurschner. Bronze sculpture, silver, glass, ceramics, and furniture are among the many exceptional items on display.

Tiffany Studios was arguably the most accomplished maker of art glass in the world in its day and undoubtedly one of the best of all time. In his blown glass, introduced to the public in 1893, Louis Comfort Tiffany turned to sources that included antiquity, horticulture, rocks, the flow of lava, and, most of all, his powerful imagination. Through exploitation of chemistry, mechanics, and the logistics of production, he transformed his ideas into objects of astonishing variety, originality, and beauty. In this new installation, the Morse presents examples of Tiffany art glass that richly illustrate the artist’s mastery of this medium.

Like a graceful oil stain Art Nouveau is spreading across Europe around 1900. In each country the style has a different name: Art Nouveau, Jugendstil, Wiener Stil, Stile Floreale, Modernismo, Modern Style en Nieuwe Kunst. Within the movement, there’s a main goal: innovation and improvement. Artists have had enough of the spineless neo-styles. In addition, they believe that the industrial revolution has not contributed much. In response, they aim to beautify and enhance their environment. And to do so, they develop their own language: floral and ornate, or sober and geometric.

Leiden University Library and Stichting Museum Nieuwenkamp are organising an exhibition about graphics and applied arts by W.O.J. Nieuwenkamp (1874-1950) and Nieuwe Kunst around 1900. Nieuwenkamp’s tours through the Netherlands, Egypt, India and Indonesia, and the impressions he recorded during his wanderings are the focuss of the exhibition.
16 January – 10 April 2016, Exhibition ‘Emile Gallé – Nature & Symbol‘, Tokyo Metropolitan Teien Art Museum, Tokyo, Japan.
Underlying Gallé’s art was his passion for botany. In his garden, he employed expert gardeners to care for between 2,500 and 3,000 varieties of plants. Immersed in this wealth of natural beauty, he studied plants with meticulous care, paying close attention to their evolution and life cycles. In this exhibition, Gallé’s design sketches from the Musée d’Orsay collection are displayed, drawings that vividly express his direction to “Examine plants more closely!” With them, finished works by Gallé are displayed, creations that express the lifelong dedication of a man fascinated by plants to the close examination of their biology and symbolism.

This is the largest public fair in The Netherlands for Art Deco, Art Nouveau, Nieuwe Kunst, Amsterdamse School and Design from the period 1880-1980. The 18th edition will again take place at the ‘Grote Kerk’ in The Hague. The International Art Deco Beurs offers a unique selection of original, authenticated and affordable works from the most prominent galleries in The Netherlands, and abroad.
10 December 2015 – 20 March 2016, Exhibition ‘Alfons Mucha and the Art Nouveau Atmosphere‘, Palazzo Reale, Milano, Italy.
The exhibition recounts the career of Mucha through 149 works borrowed for the occasion from the Richard Fuxa Foundation. The exhibition is enriched with a wide selection of ceramics, furniture, wrought iron, glass, sculptures and drawings by different artists and manufacturers from Europe, testifying to the floral style that characterized the various national variations – French, Belgian and Italian in particular – of international Art Nouveau.

From the late 19th to the early 20th century French ceramics are experiencing a golden age. In the 1890s, its position is unique: France created the most progressive and high quality ceramics in the world. The exhibition of French ceramics 1875-1945 – Céramiques sublimes at the Gemeentemuseum offers a magnificent view of the French ceramic art from its origins to the years after World War II. Not just a feast for the eyes for lovers of art nouveau and art deco, but also interesting for experts in the field of ceramics.

The exhibition Alphonse Mucha in Quest of Beauty will be travelling to the Sainsbury Centre for Visual Arts (SCVA) in Norwich after having been a huge success at the Russell-Cotes Museum in Bournemouth. Later in 2016, the exhibition will move to the Kelvingrove Art Gallery in Scotland. And in 2017 the exhibition will be featured at the Walker Art Gallery in Liverpool.
Featuring works primarily from Mucha’s Paris period, the exhibition examines how le style Mucha evolved and became synonymous with the international Art Nouveau style. It also looks at how his artistic philosophy is reflected on the development of his work beyond the Art Nouveau period, with examples of works produced after his return to the Czech lands in 1910. It will make links between Mucha’s work and philosophy and important jewellery, glass and sculpture pieces in the Anderson Collection of Art Nouveau in the collection of the SCVA which share a visual vocabulary in their use of whiplash curves, botanical lines and floral motifs.

22 October 2015 – 28 February 2016, Exhibition ‘The Women of Klimt, Schiele and Kokoschka‘, Belvedere Museum, Vienna, Austria.
In the early twentieth century, the traditional relationship between the sexes was challenged by a number of social, economic, and philosophical changes. It was above all the incipient development towards gender equity that provoked vehement counter-arguments. On the other hand, sexual liberation can be seen as a common goal of men and women, since they both sought to escape the restrictive moral taboos of the nineteenth century. Gustav Klimt, Egon Schiele, and Oskar Kokoschka – then the three most outstanding painters of Viennese modernism – approached the subject matter generally referred to as the ‘woman question’ from slightly different, albeit overlapping perspectives. The exhibition will present an in-depth exploration of these differences and similarities. Providing insights into the relationship between the sexes in the early twentieth centuries, the show will elaborate on the origins of a modern sexual identity.

Art Nouveau defined itself via reform movements, visions and Utopian dreams aimed at renewing society. The special exhibition throws light on this cultural and historical background and development, drawing together the ideas linking Karl Marx‘s “Das Kapital” and Peter Behrens’s salon grand piano with symbols quoted from Friedrich Nietzsche’s “Zarathustra”. It shows reform movement robes, a solar bath for sun-worshippers, photographs of nudists playing sports in the open air or Loïe Fuller’s celebrated light dances. The arts take up the revolutionary changes affecting the private and social life of modern man, sketch new models for living and experiment with technical innovations.
11 October 2015 – 17 January 2016, Exhibition ‘Hans Christiansen – The Retrospective‘, Museumsberg, Flensburg, Germany.
Hans Christiansen (1866-1945) is one of the most important representatives of Art Nouveau. After he had become an artist in Paris, he was lured back to Darmstadt in 1899 by Grand Duke Ernst Ludwig, where he became one of the first seven members of the artists’ colony. For the first time the full range of this versatile artist can be experienced.
The major retrospective, the first ever to Hans Christiansen will be featured in four German institutions. The first of these being Mathildenhöhe, then followed by the Berlin Brohan Museum, the Museum Villa Stuck in Munich and the Museum Mountain Flensburg, where the exhibition tour will end just before the 150th anniversary of the artist in his hometown.
13 September 2015 – 15 June 2016, Exhibition Art Nouveau – Fleurs, Faune, Femmes at the Lalique Museum, in Doesburg, The Netherlands.
Besides the obvious objects designed by Rene Lalique, the exhibition will also comprise a selection of items by Majorelle, Mucha, Gallé, Daum, Guimard, Van de Velde and Jan Toorop. These objects, borrowed from other museums and from private collectors, will help placing the Art Nouveau period in a broader context. Nice to know is that a large number of these items have never been exhibited in a museum before. During the exhibition also original footage of the 1900 World Exhibition in Paris, of actrice Sarah Bernhardt, René Lalique en Loie Füller will be shown.
21 April 2015 – 8 May 2016, Open-Air Exhibition Fabiani’s Heritage in Ljubljana, City Museum of Ljubljana, Ljubljana, Slovenia.
In 2015 we are celebrating the 150th anniversary of Max Fabiani’s birth. The museum is commemorating the anniversary of the famous architect and urban planner with Fabiani’s Legacy in Ljubljana. The exhibition presents Fabiani’s regulation plans that outlined the long-term urban development of Ljubljana after the 1895 earthquake, as well as his other executed works in Ljubljana.

Exhibition ‘Natures of Art Nouveau‘.
The Natures of Art Nouveau exhibition highlights the role of nature in art and architecture across Europe at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries. The wiry curved lines that are typical of Art Nouveau illustrated the sensuality and vitality of nature. Plants, animals and the elements of nature intertwined in imaginative, dream-like pieces.

10 May 2012 – 31 December 2016, Exhibition Alfons Mucha: The Slav Epic, Národní Galerie, Prague, Czech Republic.
The Slav Epic (Slovanská epopej) is a series of twenty monumental canvases (the largest measuring over 6 by 8 metres) depicting the history of the Slav people and civilisation. Mucha conceived it as a monument for all the Slavonic peoples and he devoted the latter half of his artistic career to the realisation of this work. The idea of the work was formed in 1899, while Mucha was working on the design for the interior of the Pavilion of Bosnia-Herzegovina, which had been commissioned by the Austro-Hungarian government for the Paris Exhibition of 1900. In preparation for the assignment he travelled widely through the Balkans, researching their history and customs as well as observing the lives of the Southern Slavs in the regions that had been annexed by Austria-Hungary two decades earlier. From this experience sprang the inspiration for a new project – the creation of ‘an epic for all the Slavonic peoples’ that would portray the ‘joys and sorrows’ of his own nation and those of all the other Slavs.

The Charles Hosmer Morse Museum of American Art, Winter Park, Florida, USA.
The work of Louis Comfort Tiffany (1848–1933) is undoubtedly the centerpiece of the Morse Museum collection. The Museum’s Tiffany collection is broad, deep, and unique. It includes fine examples in every medium Tiffany explored, in every series of work he produced, and from every period of his life. The museum is also a treasure house of American decorative art from the mid-19th century to the early 20th century, with especially rich holdings in the area known as Arts and Crafts.
Golden Age of the Zsolnay – Collection of László Gyugyi, Zsolnay Cultural Quarter, Pécs, Hungary.
The private Zsolnay collection of Dr. László Gyugyi comprising around 600 pieces represents an unparalleled value. Its pieces date back to a 40-year period (1870-1910) that can be divided in three great parts: the periods of historicism, millennium and secession. The collection found a home in Pécs in the framework of the Pécs2010 European Capital of Culture Programme, in the Zsolnay Cultural Quarter, in a secession building that was reorganised for this particular aim in the former Sikorsky villa.

The restoration work carried out over nearly fifteen years breathed new life into the building. The first week-end of every month it is open to visitors who appreciate its message of beauty.
The successive ground floor rooms each have their own particularities and their content of symbolism. Decorative designs and furniture of the time demonstrate the manifest influence of Charles Rennie Mackintosh (Glasgow School of Art). The upper storeys of the house, where there is no evidence of Paul or Lina’s talents, have been used as apartments and renovated to suit modern contemporary use. The basement, cellar, and artist workshop have been redesigned into a vast gallery to exhibit Paul and Lina Cauchie’s paintings collected by the current owners over time.
