Preparing for my visit to Osijek (Croatia) in October 2012, I looked up the available museums in order to find out if there would be a museum with an Art Nouveau collection on display. The Michelin Travel page about Osijek said “Don’t miss the Secesija collection devoted to the Secession style (stained glass, furniture), an Austro-Hungarian exhibition of Art nouveau at the Museum of Slavonia…” which got me really exited.
Also the website of the museum looked promising. It showed some very nice Art Nouveau glassware.
But when I bought my entrance ticket and asked in which room I could find the Art Nouveau / Secesija collection, they had no idea what I was referring to… At that point I started to become a bit worried. I looked through their rack of postcards, hoping to find examples of their Art Nouveau objects and show them the reason why I was there, but no luck with the postcards either… The only option left was to just wander the rooms, and search the Art Nouveau collection myself!
I had looked forward to this very much but the museum was a big disappointment. There were only two Art Nouveau objects on display while I had expected so much more…
The chandelier is a bit over the top for my taste, but I do like the green bowl. So, if you are in Osijek anyways, and you have an hour and 2 euro’s to spare, do go to the museum. Maybe they have a changing collection and maybe you are luckier than I… Let me know when you get back!!!

Tuesday (utorak), Wednesday (srijeda) & Friday (petak): 9 am- 7 pm
Thursday (četvrtak): 9 am – 8 pm (in summer to 10 pm)
Saturday (subota): 5 pm – 9 pm
Sunday (nedjelja): 10 am – 2 pm
Admission 10 – 18kn. Free entry on Sundays.
